A fund to nurture and support the arts in Kāpiti.
Helping to create a must-visit arts destination.
"We want to put Kāpiti's incredible arts scene on the map," says Creative Kāpiti Charitable Trust Trustee, Liz Koh, "it is our mission to promote and encourage participation in the arts to make our region a must-visit arts destination."
Established in 2012 by a group of local arts lovers, the Creative Kāpiti Charitable Trust was founded with the kaupapa to nurture and develop the flourishing arts sector that makes the Kāpiti Coast so special. "There is so much creative talent here, and we wanted to shine a light on it," says Liz.
Funding for the long-term.
In 2021, the Trust made the strategic decision to safeguard and amplify its impact, ensuring the arts were supported long-term through the establishment of the Creative Kāpiti Fund with Nikau Foundation. "COVID has had a huge impact on the arts industry," says Liz, "seeing this impact, we started thinking of ways we could build a reliable funding stream to support the arts forever.”
The Fund's kaupapa is to promote and encourage community access to and participation in the arts, advance community education and understanding of the arts sector, and to orgasnise and promote arts events, including workshops, lectures and exhibitions.
Once the Fund has reached $75,000 it will become a source of funding to support the vision of the Creative Kāpiti Charitable Trust.
A vehicle to support the arts long-term
"Kāpiti locals are naturally supportive of each other – we go to openings, visit digital installations, and thousands attend the Kāpiti Arts Trail every year", says Liz, "the Fund is just another way to nurture our incredible arts scene for generations to come."
