Providing practical support

Nikau Club members’ support pays for essential day-to-day running costs, and that means the Nikau team can focus on making your giving go further.

Annabel McCallum is a born and bred Wellingtonian. She’s also a pragmatist, so the idea of becoming a Nikau Club member and contributing towards the nuts and bolts costs of the organisation was instantly appealing.

“I thought the Nikau Club is a really practical way I can support the administration and the running of the Foundation. The Nikau team can then focus on talking to people who may want to set up a fund and looking for fantastic and meaningful organisations to support.”

Annabel was introduced to Nikau Foundation by legendary fundraiser and former General Manager Kitty Hilton.

“She talked about Nikau, and the way she described it just absolutely resonated with me – the idea of an organisation that has a local focus and a local impact was really appealing. “I liked that, although Nikau’s focus was local, the range of community organisations it supported was broad – that absolutely appealed to me.”

I know that sometimes the biggest challenge for a not for-profit is raising the basic running costs.

Annabel says she also liked the fact that Nikau Foundation has a small organisational footprint.

“I got the sense that it was a very efficient organisation, that it didn’t have a big infrastructure and appeared to be lean and mean relative to the footprint it had.”

Beginning a long-term partnership

Annabel traces her interest in philanthropy back to her mother – “a very good role model who believed if you could afford to help others, you should.”

She’s taken her mother’s advice, supporting a number of charities and sees her relationship with Nikau Foundation as a long-term partnership.

“I’m at a point in my career where I can make a commitment to Nikau Foundation – giving a certain amount every year. I see it as setting me up for further down the track where I can begin to make bigger philanthropic decisions.”

“I think legacy giving is a wonderful thing. It feels that, as a Nikau Club member, I can support the organisation in a practical financial way, and in due course, I will be involved with Nikau through a legacy fund that can be put to good use.”
