Honouring a loved one
Adrienne and Laurie Bushell were always deeply committed to making a difference on their doorstep. That’s why when Laurie died suddenly in 2002, Adrienne and her family chose to celebrate and honour him by establishing a fund in his name.
“Putting the money in the care of Nikau Foundation means I haven’t had to worry about annual accounts, investment decisions, rigorous compliance or trustee appointments.” says Adrienne. And it wasn’t difficult deciding what Laurie’s fund should support given his life-long passion for the arts which he nurtured from a young age.
Creative flair
Originally born in Southport, Laurie moved with his family to central Liverpool as a young boy. Much of Laurie’s early career was spent as a photographer and photojournalist, which saw him working across commercial, sports, and portrait photography.
Growing up in Liverpool in the 60s, Laurie immersed himself in the creative and music scene, photographing many of the popular bands of the time for FAB magazine. He was the exclusive photographer on the Beatles Spanish tour.
New beginnings
In 1966, Laurie came to New Zealand, settling in the Wellington. There, he would begin a long and industrious career in the printing industry.
“Laurie was passionate about his new home, and he knew the importance of making sure local generosity went to local causes.” says Adrienne.
Philanthropically minded
Throughout their rich life together working, travelling the world, and raising a family, Adrienne and Laurie believed in, and practised, philanthropy. His passionate love for the arts, particularly fine art and music, deepened, and for many years Laurie was a proud supporter of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, NZ Opera and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.
If you love the arts, why not consider making a gift to the Laurie Bushell Fund.
