The journey of the Sia Bloggs Fund

Giving through a community foundation, like Nikau, offers you the opportunity to extend the value of your philanthropic dollar far beyond the here and now. Whether you establish your own endowment fund to give back to the causes you hold near and dear or contribute to an existing fund, your generosity will continue to make a difference for generations to come.

But, how does it actually work?

This table and graph shows the journey of the Sia Bloggs Fund, a hypothetical fund.

The Sia Bloggs Fund was established with Nikau Foundation in say, 2014, with the goal to give back to youth throughout Te Upoko-o-te-Ika-a-Māui, the Greater Wellington region.

It was Sia’s hope that, by establishing the fund, she could continue to support youth initiatives as she had throughout her life.

Because Nikau’s model is designed to deliver long-term impact, this $75,000 is responsibly invested and its real value is preserved over time.

Keeping in mind a few key variables and assumptions, such as investment returns, fees and inflation, as well as Nikau’s distribution rate, in the year after establishment the Sia Bloggs Fund will give out $2,651 in grants to help organisations dedicated to supporting youth in our region.

By the fifth year of granting, the Sia Bloggs Fund will have given out $13,708.

By the tenth year of granting, the Fund would have given out $28,782.

And by the 23rd year of granting, the Fund would have given out $75,724 – more than the initial fund donation, while the fund balance has grown to $115,866.

By the 50th year of granting, the fund balance has more than DOUBLED and the total grants given out have surpassed $221,000 – almost THREE TIMES the initial donation.

So, let’s break it down.

✅ One donation of $75,000.

✅ Over $221,000 contributed to make a transformative difference for our region’s youth.

✅ And the initial gift is STILL there growing in the background.

And the best part? Because community foundations, like Nikau, exist in perpetuity, the impact won’t stop in 50 years.

The fund balance will continue to grow over time.

And Sia Bloggs’ generosity will continue to create better outcomes for our youth, even in 100, 150 or 200 years.
