Zero Waste Ōtaki launches sustainably-focused initiative
With the goal of minimising waste destined for landfill, Zero Waste Ōtaki diverts wood from landfill, while creating pathways to employment, and engaging and educating locals.

A sister’s love continues to make a difference to dance.
Supported by the Willscott Fund, the New Zealand School of Dance used a Nikau grant to engage renowned choreographer and 2001 NZSD alumni Ross McCormack to develop a stunning new work.
Fostering a sense of kinship
Founded in 2006 with the goal of promoting the social, economic, political and environmental interests of Te Ātiawa iwi, Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai Charitable Trust also focuses on fostering a sense of kinship and connectedness within the community.

Displaying incredible commitment to her school and the wider community, Makoura College Year 13 student, Rebekah Jenkins, has been awarded $3000.00 to assist with accommodation and living costs as she pursues tertiary education.

LandSAR
LandSAR are a national volunteer organisation which provides land search and rescue services to lost, missing and injured all over New Zealand. Their volunteers operate in all types of terrain, and commit to regular, professional training including advanced bushcraft, survival, navigation, first aid and search skills on their own time.
The Common Unity Project
Urban Kai Farms Programme is transforming lawns at homes, schools and institutions across the Hutt Valley into intensely productive, organic micro-farms. With salary support from Nikau Foundation, their team are teaching, training and engaging the local community.
ZEAL Kāpiti
Zeal’s mission is to positively impact every young New Zealander through creativity. Their youth centres are safe, welcoming and inclusive offering afterschool hangouts, events, creative programmes, workshops, online crisis intervention and more.

Te Ara Moana use the sea to support young people build confidence, teach practical skills and improve their emotional resilience.
Doing more for Kiwi kids
For more than 60 years, Barnardos have been helping children, families and whānau in need. Today, they are continuing to support, protect and educate thousands of New Zealand children.
Kiwi-English opens doors
Learning everyday Kiwi-English at English Language Partners Hutt gives migrants and former refugees the tools to participate in their new communities. With a grant from Nikau Foundation, the Lower Hutt based organisation produced a hardcopy of its popular newsletter and advertised for new volunteers.
Making life more livable
For six years, Nikau Foundation have been supporting Camp Purple Live – a place for children to have fun, learn and meet others coping with Chrohn’s and Colitis.

Sometimes, it’s the seemingly inconsequential, kind of unglamorous things – like bench tops – that make all the difference when it comes to getting a big job done.
Creating the heart of a home
The House of Grace is a safe haven, giving young mums-to-be a place to stop, breathe and learn life and parenting skills. Last year, Nikau Foundation helped pay for roof repairs, but the impact of this grant is so much more than just bricks and mortar.
